My art is a visual extension of a personal connection to the natural world. I use the landscape as
a reference point from which I abstract meaning as well as the reality of time and place.
Dorothy Furlong-Gardner, 2009
Dorothy Furlong-Gardner, a native of New Orleans, received a Master of Fine Arts Degree from
the University of New Orleans in 1981 and a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Newcomb Art
School of Tulane University in 1966 after previous study at Louisiana State University in Baton
Rouge.
Dorothy was a faculty member of the Visual Arts Department of Southeastern University and a
visiting artist at Loyola University of New Orleans. She has conducted workshops at Tulane
University, the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts and privately in her studio in New Orleans
and Folsom, Louisiana.
Her prints and paintings have been exhibited in international, national and regional juried and
invitational shows and her work is in several museum and other public collections in this
country and in many private collections here and abroad.
